How to Set Up Parental Control on Google Chrome with Family Link?


Before moving to the procedure to set up Parental Control on Google Chrome, you first need to create a Google account for you and your kids, and then add your child’s account to the Family link.


Only then, you can enable security settings on their Chrome use and monitor their accounts. 


Once you have covered all these requirements, you can proceed with the measures given below. 


  1. Enable SafeSearch


Safe search setting Chrome is designed to filter search results that lead to the visualization of inappropriate content. 


To set up this mode:


  • Open the app’s Dashboard >> Content Restrictions >> Google Search.


  • Turn on the option SafeSearch and it will disable explicit content.


  • Now, turn on the Personal Results option to view only personalized results from Google. 


(You can turn it ‘OFF’ if you don’t want to.)


  • Last, go to Account Data Settings and enable Google to save your child’s activity on the search engine.


Here, you are all done preventing your kids from exposing themselves to explicit content.


  1. Filter Browsing 


You can select the Filter option to detect and block content that is unsuitable for the children’s age.


To do so:


  • Go to Family Link app >> Settings >> Manage >> Filters on Google Chrome.


  • Select Try to block mature sites and it will hide the sites carrying explicit and violent content. 


  • You can also add websites that your kids can access. All you need to do is select Allow only certain sites.


  1. Change Site Permissions


Chrome Parental Controls also allow you to make changes to site permissions.


To do so: 


  • Go to Settings >> Manage >> Filter on Google Chrome >> Chrome Dashboard


  • Now, turn off all the options, including Permissions for sites, apps, and extensions.


This will help you improve your teens' security and privacy on their Google Chrome accounts.
